TRADE PROGRAM
As an expansion of the Center’s STEAM curriculum, the Center successfully launched a beta test for this innovative introduction to the trades program in 2022. Made possible thanks to a private donor grant through the Community Foundation of Martin and Palm Beach Counties, this transformative initiative focuses on broadening the students’ understanding of future career options by directly exposing them to professional opportunities as well as service, tech, and trade careers at a young age.
Modules include culinary, electronics, fashion design & sewing, design & drafting, auto, carpentry, and home renovation. Each module includes a team-based, hands-on project, field trips to visit local businesses, and a six-lesson module with an expert guest tutor.
Survey results from both students and corporate partners have exceeded goals, with the program proving to have a direct correlation to increased grade point averages and improved self-esteem. Partner businesses so far have included Florida Atlantic University, Lockheed Martin and Home Depot.
